40 Warren Street in Charlestown, Massachusetts was an adaptive reuse project that saw a former parking garage transformed into a unique office space. VCA was hired to do an interior fit-out for a spec office suite, complete with pantry, conference rooms, huddle room, phone room, and collaboration space
The use of a former garage presented the challenge of a changing floor level at the center of the space, where two separate buildings came together. VCA used this transition as an opportunity to introduce an architectural ramp and steps, creating a central gathering feature that celebrated the existing architecture
Another consideration when designing the space was how to keep it as light and bright as possible. VCA put great care into the lighting package, giving the space new life and energy.
The mushroom columns of the parking garage take on new life in the adapted space, becoming a distinguishing feature of the space. The columns emphasize the ceiling height and add visual interest.
