Kirkland & Ellis LLP – Boston, MA
For Kirkland & Ellis, an international law firm with the goal of providing “the highest quality legal services available anywhere,” the design focus for their new office space in Boston was necessarily one of understated elegance. A location on the upper floors of the 200 Clarendon Street tower in Back Bay further accentuated the need for a sleek, refined aesthetic that would highlight, rather than compete, with the stunning views offered from all sides. The design of the space achieves these aims by emphasizing the beauty of functional structures and integrating them seamlessly into the composition of the surrounding space. Bold shapes are tempered by clean materials and open sight lines, allowing the features of the interior to shine in their simplicity. Offices line the perimeter windows, capitalizing on the views spanning outward. Clean glass walls at the office fronts take natural light through to the corridors and are accented by a continuous textured carpet with a linear design that evokes movement along the path. Neutral colors and open lines of sight play against solid light wood doors to bring warmth to the carefully executed minimalism of the interior spaces. These ideals are echoed throughout the design.
