Atlas Venture

When helping to relocate Atlas Venture and their direct investment companies to a new location in Cambridge, MA, not only was having a cohesive design concept a priority but also addressing the acoustical issues caused by the existing mechanical room on the same floor. Acoustical drop ceilings and a layer of acoustical panel on the mechanical door were added to help reduce sounds and vibrations. Bringing natural light throughout the open workspace was achieved by introducing floor-to-ceiling glass walls at the office fronts along the hallway, which also helped the space feel more spacious. The pantry, which is the focal point of the office, joined Atlas Venture and their smaller investment firms together, helping to create a modern-sleek and industrial-tech aesthetic. The area was designed to evoke a residential mood with a large bar-height counter and sophisticated living room-style furniture. Atlas Venture wanted to maintain a sense of history and elected to relocate their existing logo, which had a more rustic feel compared to the new high tech design. In order to successfully juxtapose the old with the new, the reception desk which includes contrasting materials of steel and reclaimed wood was designed to tie everything together.Read more
