IIDA Fashion Show Ready

The International Interior Design Association of New England held its 16th annual show at the Convention and Exhibition Center in Boston’s Waterfront. This fashion show brings together an array of vendors that donate their product(s) to interior design firms to create looks for the evening. This year’s proceeds went to Year Up, an organization that empowers young adults to go from poverty to professional careers in one year.

This year’s theme was “Adaptation: How Will You Respond?” Inside there was a collection of designers, vendors, contractor, and many within the industry buzzing with high anticipation of what the night would bring forth. The show opened with two Drag Queen impersonators of Gable Clarke  and Holyn Nickerson followed by the introductions of judges, sponsors and committee members and then the real Gable and Holyn came out to start the show.

Presented entries answered this year’s theme question in a myriad of fashions from aberrant outfits to ready to wear looks.  Entry themes encompassed nature’s evolution, urbanity, humanity, architecture in fashion and transformation of raw materials.

VC partnered with Global, Ideapaint and Mayer Fabrics our interpretation of the theme was the following:

“The built world does not plateau; rather, it absorbs. What is today contemporary is sustaining tomorrow. The evolution of our structural landscape is not forgetful. Modernity is simply a brevity ever reconstructed by relentless advancement.”

VC’s looks were carried by the shimmering blend of indie pop song, “Reflections” by Misterwives. VC’s first outfit was modeled by Catherine Richards symbolizing raw materials of nature. These materials were recycled from Global’s manufacturing facility. Materials included recycled veneers and  recycled paper products that made the bodice and skirt of Catherine’s outfit. The second outfit was modeled by Jenna Boscio who wore a skirt made of cone-shaped bronze vinyl  representing steel and modernity with a structured bronze form. Lastly, Elizabeth Lo Than Soe, modeled a futuristic looks with a train weaved of strips of white vinyl and a top that was a chair cover. Each look included an element from the previous look that aligned with our interpretation of adaptation.
